BLACKPINK Returns with New Song… New Girl Group Members to Be Revealed on the 28th
[문화일보=안진용 기자] girl group BLACKPINK, now back to full four-member activities, is making a comeback with a new song.
YANG HYUN SUK, Executive Director of YG Entertainment, has unveiled a master plan outlining the future activities of the company’s artists, including BLACKPINK, BABYMONSTER, and TREASURE. He also shared plans to launch new rookies.
On May 26, YG posted an announcement titled “BLACKPINK, BABYMONSTER, TREASURE, AND UPCOMING ROOKIES | YG Announcement” on its official social media. It features YANG HYUN SUK’s first interview video of the year, laying out YG’s blueprint for the second half of 2025.
Appearing for the first time in seven months, YANG HYUN SUK shared, “I think we will soon be able to announce BLACKPINK’s new song release.” BLACKPINK’s last new song was part of their full album BORN PINK, released on September 16, 2022.
BABYMONSTER is also gearing up for an intense schedule. Starting with a pre-release single on July 1, they will follow up with a second single in September and drop a mini album on October 1, promising non-stop activity. The pre-release single is titled HOT SAUCE, marking their first new track in about eight months since their full album DRIP, released on November 1, 2024.
YANG HYUN SUK explained, “HOT SAUCE is a hip-hop song inspired by the mid-to-late 1980s. It’s highly addictive, and we’re releasing it as a gift, hoping you can enjoy the summer. We wondered, ‘What would it feel like if BABYMONSTER, whose average age is in their teens, sang a hip-hop genre from 40 years ago?’ We’re very satisfied with the result.”
TREASURE will also release a new mini album on September 1. YANG HYUN SUK stated, “From now on, we will do our best to support TREASURE so they can release at least two albums a year and continue meeting with fans.” After their comeback, TREASURE plans to kick off a new world tour starting in October.
Beyond the artists’ schedules, YANG HYUN SUK surprised music fans by revealing, for the first time, details about YG’s trainees and upcoming debut plans.
He said, “Currently, YG has two boy groups and two girl groups preparing for debut, and I definitely want to launch at least one boy group next year.” Notably, he revealed that one new girl group, whose member count is already finalized at four, is a team he is eager to debut as soon as possible.
Starting May 28, YG will sequentially release practice videos of the four new girl group members. Just as BABYMONSTER’s practice videos were revealed before their debut, YANG HYUN SUK emphasized, “We will present these new rookies’ practice clips in advance, so you can evaluate their skills exactly as they are, as you see and hear them.”
However, since YANG HYUN SUK expressed a desire to focus more on BABYMONSTER’s growth until the end of next year, it is expected that the official debut of YG’s new girl group will happen afterward.
With BLACKPINK’s imminent comeback and large-scale world tour starting July 5, BABYMONSTER’s July single and October mini album, and TREASURE’s September 1 mini album release followed by their October world tour, YG looks set for its busiest second half of the year yet.
At the end of the interview, YANG HYUN SUK stressed that YG has significantly revamped and advanced its internal systems over the past year. Prioritizing the acceleration of rookie debuts and expanding intellectual property (IP), he expressed his determination, “From the second half of this year, we will show you YG’s upgraded system.”
